Dissertation Proposal: Simulation and Evaluation of Sound Propagation Effects for Virtual Environments
نویسنده
چکیده
Sound has a multitude of applications in areas ranging from engineering, architecture, entertainment, to environmental noise control. Sound also plays a crucial role in immersive virtual environments with studies showing it can improve the sense of presence and fidelity in training, simulation, education, and entertainment. This makes it important to simulate sound in a perceptuallyaccurate way such that the user’s sense of immersion is not broken owing to a mismatch in the expected stimuli and the generated stimuli.

DYNAMICAL SIMULATION OF UNDERWATER SOUND PROPAGATION IN THE HORMOZ STRAIT
Providing an illustration of sound propagation in the Hormoz Strait ,this paper is about acoustic wave propagation in shallow water for a harmonic point source with low frequency, less than 1000 and solution of a homogenous Helmholtz equation using parabolic equation. C++ programming is used to solve Helmholtz equation [9] and MATLAB software is used to illustrate figures and animate them [6], ...
متن کاملValidation of Acoustical Simulations in the “Bell Labs Box”
Computer simulated sound propagation through 3D environments is important in many applications, including computer-aided design, training, and virtual reality. In many cases, the accuracy of the acoustical simulation is critical to the success of the application. For example, in concert hall and factory design (where OSHA sound limits must be met), the accuracy of the simulation may save costly...
متن کاملSurvey of Methods for Modeling Sound Propagation in Interactive Virtual Environment Systems
This paper surveys concepts, algorithms, and systems for modeling sound propagation in interactive virtual environment applications. First, we review physically-based geometric algorithms for modeling the propagation of early arriving sound waves. Second, we describe perceptually-based statistical techniques that provide late reverberation effects. Finally, we compare auditory display systems t...
متن کاملA Simulation Study of Multi-path Characteristics of Acoustic Propagation in the Strait of Hormuz
Multi-path interference due to boundary reflection in shallow water acoustic communication poses a major obstacle to reliable and high-speed underwater communication system. In this study, initially 3D variations of field data such as sound speed, temperature and salinity in horizontal transects of the Strait of Hormuz were analyzed using the ROPME data. Later, data on typical sound speed ...
متن کاملModeling Sound Reflection and Diffraction in Architectural Environments with Beam Tracing
This paper describes and analyzes a beam tracing method for computing sound propagation paths from sound sources to receivers in architectural environments. The algorithm traces polyhedral beams from the location of each sound source through a precomputed data structure encoding spatial adjacencies. The main features of the method are: 1) it enumerates all potential sequences of specular reflec...
